In an effort to protect the Nation's waters from pollution, federal and state agencies have developed a system of regulations that require that the owner of a site to obtain a permit, prior to construction, and ensure that proper steps are taken during construction to help prevent erosion and prevent sediment from leaving construction sites. This section of the Interactive Manual includes best management practices (BMPs) commonly used for preventing erosion and sedimentation.
